What is Earth Day?
Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970. An organization called EARTHDAY.ORG was founded by a passionate group of individuals wanting to protect the planet and has since been successful in mobilizing over 1 billion people annually on Earth Day, and every other day, to protect the planet.
What are eBikes?
Electric bikes are bicycles fitted with various electrical components and parts that help the rider propel the bike. Those new to eBikes will quickly notice that electric bikes share similar components to analog bicycles and will be able to learn and operate an eBike in minutes.
There are many different types of electric bikes on the market designed for specific use case scenarios and at Rize Bikes, we offer the following: commuter, fat tire, folding, mid-drive, retro, and road eBikes. While we won’t be getting into the specifics of each eBike in this article, a variety of options are available for all types of riders.
How Electric Bikes Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Electric bikes have exploded in popularity since 2020 and demand has steadily been growing ever since. The global eBike market is projected to climb at a compound annual growth rate of just under 10% between 2022 and 2030, and to reach shy of 77.3 million electric bikes by 2030 - that’s a lot of bikes!
Now, you may be asking, what does an electric bike have to do with reducing my carbon footprint? The answer is, quite a lot.
When electric bikes replace trips made by car, it can provide an average reduction of 225kg of CO2 per year. In another study, if individuals were to commute 9.6km in the city, with 252 working days per year, an eBike’s CO2 emission would be 13kg as opposed to 472kg if a car was used for the same commute.
While individuals may not have the ability to make a significant impact to reducing the global carbon footprint, the collective use of eBikes across the planet can and will make a positive impact.
